Accessibility Awareness Day
August 9, 2013 — To the nearly 100 people who spent an afternoon at the Walkway Over the Hudson as part of the inaugural Accessibility Awareness Day, hosted by Cerebral Palsy of Ulster County. The fundraiser hoped to bring in more than $10,000 — money that programs need more than ever as advocates fight state plans to reduce funding for the developmentally disabled. Hoping to build on the success of this event, the organizers are spreading the word about another one next year. They hope to set a Guinness World Record on the Walkway for the longest wheelchair chain — and they will need more than 250 wheelchair users from the area to participate.
