We provide a highly structured recreational program that promotes independence, increased participation in play, socialization, communicative opportunities through the use of an inclusion model, and interaction between the non-disabled siblings and the disabled children. Children with disabilities and their siblings participate in a multitude of activities that incorporate the use of assistive technology, adaptive gross motor/fine motor tasks, and creative expression. With a multi-sensory approach to programming and varied levels of support, all children are able to participate in guided discovery, group learning games, leisure activities, and adapted arts/crafts.

The program’s goal is to enhance family stability, promote unification, and assist families with care through the provision of support to all members. Satisfaction survey’s on our program prove our success in strengthening coping abilities and allowing families access to a care setting that improves the quality of life for all members of the family unit. Families that are faced with the life changing events such as the birth of an additional child, moving from one home to another, surgery for the disabled child, etc can have a sense of security that their children are happy and cared for while addressing the unforeseen happenings/needs of their daily lives.

The respite program is located at the Community Rehabilitation Center at 250 Tuytenbridge Road in Lake Katrine, New York. Our facility is architecturally barrier-free and is designed for accessibility. Respite services are available once a month on Saturdays in addition to a one week summer program available each August. The program currently operates from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
