Respite Recreational Program for Children

The Agency’s Respite Recreational Program targets children with disabilities and their siblings.  We provide structured recreational program that enhances independence, socialization, play-skills, and inclusion.  Our structured recreational program includes opportunities for guided discovery, group games, leisure activities, and arts/crafts.

Children with disabilities and their siblings are provided an opportunity to participate in activities that combine adaptive games, adaptive physical activities, and creative movement in order to promote interaction between non-disabled siblings and children with disabilities, as well as giving family members an opportunity for respite.  Siblings have the opportunity to develop support networks with other children by participating in cooperative games and activities.

The Respite Program is located at the Community Rehabilitation Center at 250 Tuytenbridge Road in Lake Katrine, New York.  The program is conducted by Special Education Teaching Staff and is overseen by the Director of Education/Day Treatment.  We provide trained staff who are sensitive to the needs of the families and siblings and have experience in working with children who have disabilities.

Respite services are available on weekends and school calendar vacations, such as summer, spring, and winter.  The program currently operates 6-hours sessions, but offers 3-hour sessions as well.
